City Council Approves Grant Application for Surveillance Cameras to Enhance Public Safety
The City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for, accept, decline, modify, or cancel a grant application for the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) grant program. This grant, for $160,000, will fund the purchase and installation of surveillance camera systems, including License Plate Readers (LPRs), throughout the city to enhance crime prevention efforts and reduce motor vehicle-related offenses. The Police Department aims to improve crime prevention and response capabilities by utilizing these cameras for traffic monitoring, accident investigation, and broader criminal investigations. A 20% match, approximately $30,000, will be required from the city's next budget. The resolution was passed unanimously.
